LOHAS Market - health and sustainability

Deadline for advertising submission for the next issue of Eureka! Magazine is March 21th. Article submissions will be accepted through March 17th.

Email Cynthia or Tom for details on how you can involve your business or service with this bi-annual publication focusing on conscious-minded living for the cultural creative and eco-minded individual…..

LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) describes an estimated $209 billion U.S. marketplace for consumer goods and services focused on health, the environment, social justice, personal development and sustainable living. The consumers attracted to this market have been collectively referred to as Cultural Creatives and represent a sizable group in this country. Approximately 16% percent of the adults in the U.S., or 35 million people, are currently considered LOHAS Consumers.

Groundbreaking research conducted by sociologist Paul Ray attributes ‘Cultural Creatives’ as a group of educated consumers who make conscientious purchasing and investing decisions based on social and cultural values. His research shows that one in four adult Americans is part of this group—nearly 50 million people.

The LOHAS market, which is consumer based and does not reflect business to business data, includes the following market segments:

Personal Health

Natural, organic products
Nutritional products
Integrative Health Care
Dietary supplements
Mind Body Spirit products

Natural Lifestyles
Indoor & outdoor furnishings
Organic cleaning supplies
Compact flourescent lights
Social Change Philanthropy
Apparel

Green Building
Home certification
Energy Star Appliances
Sustainable Flooring
Renewable Energy Systems
Wood Alternatives

Alternative Transportation
Hybrid Vehicles
Biodiesel Fuel
Car Sharing Programs

Eco Tourism
Eco-tourism Travel
Eco-adventure Travel

Alternative Energy
Renewable Energy Credits
Green Pricing

The LOHAS website makes this very pertinent comment:

The interconnections between global economies, cultures, environments, and political systems play a large role in the holistic worldview of the typical LOHAS Consumer, but equally important are the interconnections of mind, body and spirit within individuals. This focus on Personal Development, with the ultimate goal of achieving his or her full human potential, is of utmost concern to the Cultural Creative. The current growth in this market group strongly supports the notion that spirituality is no longer relegated to the New Age periphery but is undeniably migrating to the center of mainstream cultural awareness.

This is the purpose of Eureka! Magazine - to provide encouraging information and inspiration for the mushrooming group of spiritual and conscious-minded persons and to offer them connections with products and services that meet their discerning cultural awareness. More than simply wanting to ‘buy green’ or ‘buy local’, these individuals want to develop a sense of connectedness in their communities and a balanced and harmonious life of health and well-being.

Eureka! Magazine is distributed twice a year: Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter.

Artists & Galleries Map Brochure for Eureka Springs - new issue

artists_map_cover.jpg

There has been a successful distribution of the 10,000 copies of the first Map Brochure for the Artists & Galleries of Eureka Springs. Visitors have raved about having this wonderful resource and the gallery owners have appreciated being able to send customers around town with the map in hand to visit the 20+ galleries on the map.

The new edition will be issued in late August in time for the fall season. This time 20,000 copies will be printed which is expected to last to the end of 2008. We hope to have more galleries and artists participating also. As before, the plan is to designate the inside for Galleries and the individual artists ads will appear on the back side of the downtown map along with the larger area map. These will be in two groups - Studio Artists, who want to indicate a location and/or phone and By Appointment Only, and Gallery Artists, who want to list the galleries in Eureka Springs where their work appears. And of course either ad can include a website. The Artists ads are sized differently than the gallery ads and can include 3-7 lines of text depending on the size of the image of their work. Here is an example of a Studio Artist ad:

Please email artists@studio8creations.com for an order form with rates and requirements for your text and graphics submissions. If you need to see a copy of the existing Map Brochure most participating galleries still have some copies available as does the Visitor Center, Museum, The Aud. Or give us a call at 479-253-7079.

Reminder - Map Brochure deadline Nov 1

A week left to get your submission in. Let us know how we can help you get this on time.

A couple of changes - we are listening and trying to shape this the way you guys want! - we investigated the larger map idea and will be able to print a 17″ x 22″ overall size. This means not only will the map itself be larger but the ad spaces will be slightly larger also - now 2.75″ w x 2.5 h. So your graphic image can be as large as 2.25 w x 1.5 h and still leave room for the 5 lines of text below. The text can now be as much as 35 or 36 characters/spaces instead of the original 30 character/spaces.

A few people have asked for another option, to submit their graphic the full size of the ad with their desired text already on the graphic rather than listed below. So we will accept a correctly sized 2.75 x 2.5, no border, 300 dpi CMYK tiff format for PC - if your ad person can do this for you great or let us know if you need help and we can do for you. We do want to keep a certain uniformity and quality to the overal page so please understand that your submission is subject to approval based on the above format.

And finally, the original idea for the ’studio’ ads, basically a listing, has been revised and will now offer a small photo as well as text. This is an inexpensive option for individual artists - you may want to state the gallery that your work can be viewed in or that your studio is open by appointment or simply ‘visit us at May White Street Walk’ - whatever you want in addition to your name, media, contact info.
More questions - call Cynthia or Tom at 253-7079 or Email Us

Here is an example of the new option for 2.75 x 2.5 ad graphic with no text line listing.

Deadlines revised at meeting

The Tues Oct 10th meeting of artists and gallery owners at Keel’s Creek resulted in a few changes to the timeframe for the two marketing pieces. The deadline for the Map Brochure is now Nov 1st (instead of Oct 25). Anyone wishing to be included in this should complete their orderform, provide their graphic and/or 5 lines of text and pay a 50% deposit right away to reserve their spot - balance of payment due Nov 1st.

After much discussion it was agreed to proceed with the map brochure in a timely fashion and have it available for distribution by the end of November for the Fall Art Show, and to delay the catalog book a few weeks to allow everyone to really have time to develop a quality ad. (An example of the ‘Collectors Guide” from Santa Fe/Taos was passed around to give inspiration of the quality we want to present with our book).

Those wishing to participate in the display ads for the book/catalog must submit their committment for size and include 50% payment by Nov 10th. The ad copy and balance of payment are due by November 30th.
The title for the brochure and book was discussed and a vote passed to revise the name to “Artists and Galleries of Eureka Springs” and not to use any additional subtitle on the cover as originally planned by the committee.

Other than these revised details the projects will move forward as described with Cynthia agreeing to do some further investigation on a possible way to create the map larger so it will have more detail.

Two committees will form: to plan a detailed program for distribution and to review the cover design layout prior to conclusion. Individual advertisers will be asked to sign off on their proof before submission to printer.

Meeting for artists/galleries Tues Oct 10

There will be a meeting Tues. October 10th at 7:00 pm at Keels Creek Gallery. All interested galleries and artists are encouraged to come and present any questions about the planned brochure and book for Eureka Springs galleries and artists.

Cynthia & Tom of Studio 8 Creations, along with the committee that developed the plans for both marketing pieces (Susan Morrison, Mary Springer, Edwige Denyszyn, Diane Harvey, Lorna Trigg-Hirsh, Sabina Miller) will present the plans outlined at the Sept 29th meeting and open discussion on the timeframe options and participation guidelines so that everyone will be clear and the projects can move forward with the best possible results for everyone.

Your input and participation is much needed - and pass the word to anyone else interested. Thanks.

The Art & Artists of Eureka Springs AR

The Art & Artists of Eureka Springs - Painting ~ Sculpture ~ Fine Crafts
Two new projects have unfolded for Studio 8 Creations. We will be producing two marketing pieces for the artists, galleries and studios in the Eureka Springs area.

The mission (as determined by the artists meeting and followup committee meeting) is to create two very attractive items that can be mailed and handed to our visitors seeking to find the cultural and art districts and galleries as well as locate individual artists and also studios that are open to visitors. The map brochure will be a very effective presentation to locate both downtown galleries and artists and those in the more outlying areas of Hwy 62 and 23 for example. The catalog piece will present the current as well as historical Eureka art community and represent an eclectic and inclusive view of art in Eureka. Both the brochure and the catalog will include a listing of annual arts events.
Here are some specifics on the two marketing pieces that will be available for distribution before the end of November, just in time for the Fall Art Fair & Sculpture Show and all the holiday visitor activity. Read more …
